Alors qu\u2019on croyait son \u00e9poque d\u00e9pass\u00e9e, Fantom, l\u2019enfant terrible du Bas peu de chose, a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 r\u00e9unir du monde samedi soir. Un concert qui, eu \u00e9gard tant \u00e0 la forme qu’au fond, aura marqu\u00e9 un tournant dans le rap et passera forc\u00e9ment \u00e0 la post\u00e9rit\u00e9.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il y a eu d\u2019abord la p\u00e9nombre. Ensuite des instrumentistes, formant un demi-cercle, qui laissent songeur. On dirait une de ces sc\u00e8nes typiques des tavernes de la Nouvelle-Orl\u00e9ans o\u00f9 l\u2019on prenait l\u2019habitude de voir d\u00e9filer des jazzmen bien mis sur leur trente et un. Il y a eu\u00a0 cet instant de silence, le temps de quelques poussi\u00e8res de secondes. Et enfin, Fantom, assis sur son fauteuil aur\u00e9ol\u00e9 sous l\u2019effet de la lumi\u00e8re tamis\u00e9e, tel un roi reconqu\u00e9rant son tr\u00f4ne apr\u00e8s des ann\u00e9es de guerre, que des milliers de fans attendaient depuis plus d\u2019une heure, diss\u00e9min\u00e9s autant \u00e0 Port-au-Prince, \u00e0 Santiago, \u00e0 Paris, \u00e0 Miami, qu\u2019\u00e0 Cordoba et \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al, entre autres. L’enfant du “Bas-Peu-de Chose” est en veston, chemise blanche, n\u0153ud papillon. \u00c0 la t\u00eate de tout un band. Tout un symbole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019image est forte. Sans le dire, toute une cath\u00e9drale de st\u00e9r\u00e9otypes est balay\u00e9e. Il y a longtemps en Ha\u00efti, bien des ann\u00e9es apr\u00e8s l\u2019explosion du rap, cette fausse id\u00e9e relay\u00e9e par une petite aristocratie bien-pensante selon laquelle le rap est une simple musique de rues, de ghettos et donc les salons lui sont inatteignables. Master J, Original Rap Staff et bien d\u2019autres pr\u00e9curseurs n\u2019\u00e9taient pas parvenus \u00e0 renverser compl\u00e8tement les murs \u00e9rig\u00e9s contre le mouvement rap dans un pays aux murs invisibles. Il y a eu, bien des ann\u00e9es apr\u00e8s, l\u2019explosion de Barikad Crew et Rockfam. Des enfants de l\u2019Ha\u00efti profonde qui chantaient les mis\u00e8res s\u00e9culaires du peuple, l\u2019exclusion sociale… Ils ont domin\u00e9 toute une \u00e9poque mais les murs sont rest\u00e9s quasiment intacts, les m\u00eames que Fantom a secou\u00e9s samedi soir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fatom n\u2019est pas un h\u00e9ritier. Il n\u2019a pas grandi en \u00e9coutant du rock, du jazz, du blues. Il est juste un maillon de cette bande de potes attroup\u00e9s sous le label Barikad Crew en 2005. Ils sont tous marqu\u00e9s au fer rouge par les m\u00eames  privations. Ils ont grandi, et \u00e0 mesure qu\u2019ils grandissaient, la pauvret\u00e9 leur semblait \u00eatre  l’horizon ind\u00e9passable. Ils ont v\u00e9cu la violence du syst\u00e8me mais ils l\u2019ont transpos\u00e9 dans leurs textes. Et, enfin, la gloire. Certains de leurs hits, bien avant la mort de trois d’entre eux, qu\u2019on disait les piliers du groupe, sont \u00e9lev\u00e9s au rang de l\u2019\u00e9vangile. Fantom est pass\u00e9 dans le moule. Il n\u2019est pas du genre \u00e0 cracher sur l\u2019histoire. \u00ab Avant hier soir, je pleurais sur mon lit pendant que j’\u00e9coutais “Goumen pou saw kw\u00e8”. Ma femme m\u2019a surpris… Je veux remercier Katafalk. C\u2019est gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 lui que je suis devenu celui que je suis\u00bb, confie-t-il, peu avant le d\u00e9but du concert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019enfant terrible du Bas peu de chose (BPC), qu\u2019on disait hautain, suffisant, et enclin \u00e0 “clasher” n\u2019importe qui pour n\u2019importe quel post anodin qui s\u2019en prend \u00e0 ses textes, s\u2019est soudain m\u00e9tamorphos\u00e9. Comme si brutalement le temps a agi sur le rappeur et l\u2019a assoupli. Le L\u00e9oganais, qui ne rate jamais une occasion de parler de Soso, sa maman, qui peut facilement atteindre les sommets de l\u2019excellence dans l\u2019art de raconter les d\u00e9boires d\u2019une jeune fille fra\u00eechement arriv\u00e9e \u00e0 Port-au-Prince comme les mis\u00e8res de ses cong\u00e9n\u00e8res des ghettos d\u2019Ha\u00efti, ne perd pas de vue son \u201cflow\u201d. Il chante les siens, les carences \u00e9l\u00e9mentaires d\u2019une cat\u00e9gorie sociale dans un pays effroyablement in\u00e9galitaire. \u00abManje anpil ap gate andedan kay Zache. Poutan P\u00f2l gen s\u00e8l anba lang grangou ap f\u00e8l rakle. Grann\u00e8g pa ky\u00e8 pou malere miz\u00e8 ap masakre.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il ne pouvait pas mieux ouvrir la soir\u00e9e. “Paw\u00f2l la” tombe bien. La chorale r\u00e9pond. Les musiciens sont au rendez-vous. Fantom sourit, tourne le dos aux cam\u00e9ras pour cr\u00e9er l\u2019ambiance, pr\u00e9sente ses musiciens. On se croirait par moments au bal d\u2019un de ces t\u00e9nors du Konpa dir\u00e8k s’essayant au Jazz. Le bassiste, le keyboardiste, le trompetiste… tous y vont de leur touche. Les commentaires affluent sur les diff\u00e9rentes plateformes en ligne qui retransmettaient l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement. Fantom est redevenu lui-m\u00eame. “Chassez le naturel, il revient au galop”, dit-on. Il bombe le torse. Il lance des petites piques \u00e0 peine voil\u00e9es, comme si toutes les plateformes en ligne d\u2019Ha\u00efti devraient se mettre au service du roi, du \u00abg\u00e9n\u00e9ral\u00bb. Il encha\u00eene avec \u201cMen nom nan\u201d, “di mwen”, ou encore “Asefi”, des tubes qui rappellent la domination de toute une \u00e9poque, celle o\u00f9 Fantom \u00e9tait le seul \u00abg\u00e9n\u00e9ral\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mais depuis quelques ann\u00e9es, avec l\u2019extinction presque latente de la pol\u00e9mique Barikad\/Rockfam, avec l\u2019\u00e9mergence de nouvelles voix, de nouveaux rappeurs non moins sans talents, l\u2019ic\u00f4ne Fantom a pris des rides. On disait son \u00e9poque d\u00e9pass\u00e9e et son \u201cflow” pas assez mis \u00e0 jour. Fantom le sait mieux que quiconque et \u00e9tait en col\u00e8re. Il a voulu relever ce d\u00e9fi, r\u00e9unir du monde et r\u00e9ussir \u00e0 la barbe de ceux qui lui donnaient pour \u201cmort\u201d. Son entreprise de r\u00e9incarnation a \u00e9t\u00e9 m\u00fbrement pr\u00e9par\u00e9e. Il a embauch\u00e9 et donn\u00e9 les clefs de l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement au talentueux Abdias Laguerre. Un guerrier, qui se sait \u00e9pi\u00e9 et attendu, cherche toujours \u00e0 assembler la bonne artillerie pour ne laisser aucune chance \u00e0 l\u2019adversaire. Fantom pense l\u2019avoir fait samedi soir, surtout pour un rappeur aussi sanguin qui met r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement \u00e0 dos promoteurs, organisateurs d\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nements et animateurs de radio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Et puis, comme si le pubic \u2013 plus d\u2019une cinquantaine de milliers de fans sur les r\u00e9seaux sociaux \u2013 devrait forc\u00e9ment red\u00e9couvrir en une seule soir\u00e9e les deux faces de Fantom, celui-ci est r\u00e9apparu en tenu bling-bling apr\u00e8s avoir remis\u00e9 son veston le temps d\u2019une pause. Il revient en jeans et jacket. Comme un nouveau d\u00e9but et non le d\u00e9but de la fin, il refait le show. Il r\u00e9interpr\u00e8te des tubes \u00e0 succ\u00e8s de son palmar\u00e8s. Apr\u00e8s avoir ouvert la voie en rappelant d\u00e9sormais que le rap peut se jouer en full band dans les salons les plus hupp\u00e9s, \u00e0 rebours du conservatisme plat de notre \u00e9poque, Fantom scande “Dechaje\u201d, un tube qui appelle \u00e0 faire retentir les balles, comme s\u2019il fallait enfin laisser s\u2019\u00e9chapper l\u2019id\u00e9e que le rap se nourrit de ces interdits, aux USA comme en Ha\u00efti. Du champagne coule. Il vient de r\u00e9ussir l\u2019impensable. Fantom ne retient pas ses larmes.
